MOU signed between Global India Foundation and Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Global India Foundation and Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) in New Delhi on March 7, 2008 by Mr.K.Laxman, Registrar (Admn.), IGNOU and Vice Admiral P J Jacob (Retd), Chairman, Global India Foundation. The MOU underscores the common objectives and concerns of the contracting parties. It acknowledges the expressed objective of IGNOU to widen access to higher education by offering high quality innovative and need-based programmes at different levels, especially to cater to the disadvantaged sections of society at affordable rates using the ‘media’ and a host of other means and technology to promote, coordinate and regulate the standards of education offered through open and distance learning in the country.

The Memorandum of Understanding further vindicates the objectives of the Foundation: to provide research based inputs on various issue areas within the broader parameters of international relations, social and public policy and on issues pertaining to the north-east of India, while channelising the country's efforts to realize its aspirations of playing a meaningful and constructive role in regional and global affairs. The MOU surmises the convergence between conventional institutions and open universities in the country. The contracting institutions have herein agreed to adopt strategies to establish a network between IGNOU and the various chapters of Global India Foundation, to facilitate dissemination of academic experience between IGNOU and the Foundation culminating in the organization of research initiatives and degree programmes. The signatories have agreed to mutually endeavour for the development and effective implementation of the stated objectives.
