Institute
of Advanced Studies in Global Relations (IASGR)
The
Institute of Advanced Studies in Global Relations (IASGR)
has recently been set up under the collaborative initiative
of Global India Foundation and Jadavpur University. A Memorandum
of Understanding (MoU) leading to the consecration of IASGR
was signed between Global India Foundation, Kolkata, and Jadavpur
University, Kolkata, on May 2, 2011.
IASGR would become a research base to enable the construction
and formulation of opinions on a wide range of issues to be
engaged in traditional foreign policy making. It would also
promote a genre of inter-disciplinary thinking and act as
an interface between the research and policy making communities.
It would become a centre of excellence with full intellectual
freedom, and the collaborative aspect of the institution would
encompass both Jadavpur University’s commitment towards
academic excellence and Global India Foundation’s objective
of weaving economic prosperity, social commitment and liberal
values within an interdependent matrix of national resilience.
IASGR would contain four centres of research, namely, Centre
for the Study of Global Commons and Economic Development,
Centre for Geopolitical and Strategic Studies, Centre for
the Study of Human Security, and Centre for Area Studies.
Seminars and workshops on relevant themes would ensure the
medium of dissemination of research. The Institute would attempt
to bridge the gap between the recesses of research and practical
applications of the findings. The Institute expects to cultivate
an expertise of human capital, which would benefit the development
of scholarship in institutes of higher learning across the
country. There would also be publication of research outputs
in the form of working papers, monographs etc. The Institute
would focus on the maintenance of information and documentation
services on issues of national and international import, as
well in providing direct consultancy and advisory services
to academic enterprises and policy making identities. Further,
the undertaking of academic activities to ensure the fulfillment
of its objectives would be yet another stance of the Institute.
An Advisory Committee has been constituted in order to guide
the activities of the Institute. The Advisory Committee consists
